Probiotics are live microbial feed supplements that have been used to improve intestinal bacterial balance. Anecdotally, their use appeared to eliminate Salmonella from the gastrointestinal tract when fed to iguanas, Iguana iguana. However, this study failed to demonstrate a similar effect in carpet pythons, Morelia spilota. Snakes continued to excrete Salmonella in their faeces despite being fed probiotic. [Abstract]
