Having already purchased this book, I jumped at the opportunity to do a book review, as it gave me an excuse to look again at the illustrative gross lesions that are the hallmark of the atlas. There is not a pathologist alive that would not take a second look at this book simply for the quality of its illustrations! The material in the atlas was collected over several years mostly from the Samutpraken Crocodile Farm and Zoo, Thailand, and is co-authored by one Thai medical doctor and two Thai veterinarians. It is the authors' intent to provide scientific explanation of the causes and processes of some diseases and abnormalities that occur in the crocodilians. ...... The book is not without its faults. The atlas would have been improved considerably from the benefit of an English translator. The amateurish translation of the text never interfered with this reviewer's interpretation but at times was amusing or distracting. ...... Treatment and surgical options for the illustrated conditions are occasionally mentioned, but clearly are not the emphasis of the book. ...... In summary, the book is recommended to pathologists for its fabulous illustrations of crocodilian disease processes. It may be the best single source on crocodile disease currently available. Clinicians need to recognize gross lesions to formulate a differential diagnosis, and the book may be a worthwhile expenditure in this regard, but it is emphasized that the text is not oriented toward clinical procedures or treatment.
