- ... 'This book is a must for practitioners considering adding reptiles to their practice. However, this book is not just for beginners: Dr. Boyer does an excellent job of thoroughly explaining diagnostic techniques, including a variety of sampling techniques, such that practitioners at all levels of expertise can competently perform them. Although the book will make a great asset to anyone's reference collection, it would be most effective being fully read so the comprehensive information can be learned and utilized. .... I believe that this book will be a pertinent reference for a long period of time because Dr. Boyer has presented solid herpetological and medical information based on many years of experience. He has restricted the book to species commonly and successfully kept as pets. He has focused many parts of the book on good basic care and stresses the importance of knowledge of the animals' natural history as a method of preventative medicine. .... The only changes that I would recommend for future editions are tabs to make referencing the information easier, and possibly a stronger binding as I anticipate using this book frequently enough to wear out the pages at the point of the spiral binding.
