In 2002, an ad hoc committee was formed to suggest specific ways to use the money. Their recommendations were reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors at the 2002 annual meeting and the AAZV Mazuri Grant Program was created. These grants will be awarded to projects that meet the following criteria: · Are directly related to zoological medicine· · Two categories of awards have been created: education and research. Workshop/symposia should have a defined goal and information from the workshop (proceedings, recommendations, etc) will be distributed/available to AAZV members. Awarded monies will not support salaries, the purchase of permanent equipment, institutional overhead or travel expenses to conferences. One copy of any produced materials will be held by AAZV and one copy given to Mazuri.
