- The use of a safe enteric fungicidal drug (nystatin at 100,000 U/kg PO q 24 hr for 7-14 days) as a treatment regimen where fungal overgrowth is suspected may be a useful adjunct to therapy. Nystatin is available as an oral suspension permitting easy administration via stomach tube. The use of nystatin in the treatment protocols previously described decreased the number of fungal elements based upon recheck fecal smears.
